Abu Camp

Abu Camp

The Abu Camp is set in a 180 000 hectares private reserve within the famed Okavango Delta. The mysterious riverine forests surrounding the camp are buzzing with prolific birdlife and a large lagoon is home to a school of hippos.

The Abu Camp pioneered the concept of elephant back safaris. For 17 years the Abu Camp’s staff has been offering this unique way of experiencing the wildlife sanctuary of the Okavango Delta.
Elephant back safaris at Abu Camp are a holistic experience as you are actively involved in the day to day life of the Abu herd. The daily interaction with these wise giants will make you feel part of the herd as you meet each elephant individually.

Exploring wildlife on an elephant’s back allows you to immerse yourself in the natural and uninterrupted activities of Botswana’s wildlife. Elevated on the elephant’s back you are not seen as an intruder leaving the animals to go about their habits completely undisturbed.

Facilities

The Abu Camp’s Afro-Bedouin tents live up to the standards of even the most discerning traveller. The camp blends seamlessly into the pristine environment and allows you to observe the picturesque scenery from an elevated teak deck attached to every tent.
The library is equipped with field guides and large variety of literature on African wildlife. A well stocked bar and refreshing pool allow you to stay cool under the African sun.

Activities

Abu Camp’s main attraction clearly is the resident elephant herd and a safari on elephant back is something that needs to be experienced. See the list on the right for more Informations.
